Nvidia Gpu To Power Playstation 3

Sony announces a deal with the California-based company to develop the graphics processor for its next-generation console.

TOKYO--Today Sony Computer Entertainment and Nvidia announced that they are codeveloping the new graphics processor that will be used in Sony's next-generation console, generally referred to as the PlayStation 3. The custom graphics processor unit (GPU) will merge Nividia's next-generation GeForce technology with SCEI's system solutions. The two companies will also work together in making the development tools and middleware that will be used for PS3 development.

According to Nvidia president and CEO Jen-Hsun Huang, the two companies' collaboration has been going on for some time. "Over the past two years Nvidia has worked closely with Sony Computer Entertainment on their next-generation computer entertainment system," he said. "In parallel, we have been designing our next-generation GeForce GPU. The combination of the revolutionary Cell processor and Nvidia's graphics technologies will enable the creation of breathtaking imagery that will surprise and captivate consumers."

The Sony-Nvidia deal is a broad agreement that will see the GPU being used in other digital consumer electronics products from Sony, with Nvidia collecting royalties. It is also a coup for the California-based company, whose main rival in the graphics-processor market, ATI, is working with Microsoft on the GPU for its next-generation console. Executives at Nvidia must also be feeling a more personal form of satisfaction, since the company previously had an agreement with Microsoft to make the GPUs that run in current Xboxes. According to some reports, the two firms ended said agreement on poor terms after a dispute over royalty payments.

Also of some note is that the joint statement refers to the PS3 as a "next-generation computer entertainment system" rather than a next-generation video game console, so the machine will almost certainly do more than play games, just as the PS2 can run DVDs and CDs and the PSP can play movies and MP3 audio.

Sony and Nvidia's custom GPU will be manufactured at Sony's Nagasaki factory and at Oita TS Semiconductor, Toshiba and Sony's joint fabrication facility.

Hmm coisas a mudar no mercado.

Até agora isto andava assim:

Playstation 2: Chip fabricado pela sony.

GameCube: Chip fabricado pela ATI.

XBox: Chip Fabricado pela Nvidia.

pois a ps viu k tava a perder a luta kontra a xbox.

O Gran Turismo, e o Final Fantasy.

A conclusão é simples, digo eu...

-_- daqui a 1 ano falamos :P

xbox > ps2 then xbox2 > ps3

Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Specifications (Specs)

The Playstation 3 (PS3) is creating quite a stir in the gaming community with Sony’s hope  to one again be the video gaming king. Below we have various rumors, gossip, and specifications (unconfirmed) of the console.

- The console will most likely be called the Playstation 3 or PS3 or possibly both.

- The Playstation 3 will be unveiled at conferences in the month of March and then at e3 2005 in May.

- The console may have a processor more powerful than 2.5 or 3 GHz.

- May include between 256 and 512 MBs of RAM.  Latest rumors are pointing toward the weaker 256 MBs.

- The graphics card may range from 300 to 600 MHz for super realistic gaming.

- Possibility of containing a 5 to 20 GB hard disk drive built in.

- If not a hard drive, a possible smaller externally removable and transportable hard drive may be available

- Will be backward compatible only with PS2 games and PS3 games will be played on Blu-Ray discs which have far more space than regular DVD’s.

- Four controller ports and LAN support.

- An improved online plan to compete with Xbox Live and make online gaming even more mainstream.

- Sony, IBM, and Toshiba are working on the console and the new chip it is rumored to utilize.

- The chip is codenamed the “Cell” and has cost the companies hundreds of millions to research, develop, and in the near future produce.

- Rumors currently include:

    * The PS3 is rumored to be anywhere from 100 to 1000 times as powerful/faster as the PS2.
    * There may be two different versions of the PS3.  One will be more like a console and home entertainment system while the other one will be cheaper and only for gaming.
    * Wireless controllers, keyboards, and other accessories may be available at launch.
    * Broadband Adapter being included with the console
    * Big companies like EA and Activision have already jumped on board for production of the PS3. We should expect a few high profile launch titles to be developed.

+ a nova nintendo

Nintendo Revolution (N5) Specifications (Specs)

The Nintendo Revolution (N5) is creating quite a stir in the gaming community with its promise of being Revolutionary.  Therefore, people really want the specs (specifications) of the console.  Below we have various rumors, gossip, and unconfirmed specs of the Revolution.

- “Revolution” is the code name for Nintendo’s next system, but as before it could definitely change (Dolphin was Nintendo 64’s codename).

- ATI, IBM, and NEC are rumored to be hard at work along with Nintendo for the production of the Revolution

- The console will either pack two 1.8 GHz Power PC G5 processor (kind of like the DS anyone?).  The other type of console will simply sport a commanding Power PC G5 processor from anywhere between 2.5 to 3.5 GHz.

- Revolution will contain 512 MBs of Ram

- 500 to 800 MHz graphics chip allowing for gaming that will look even better than Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 at full force.

- Contains a 5 to 20 GB hard disk drive that will be built in.

- Four controller ports and LAN support.

- Can connect to computer monitors and TV’s alike.

- The console is supposed to change how we think about games

- Set for release in 2006

- Rumors currently include:

    *
    * Touch screens (or just screens) on the controllers
    * Wireless controllers, keyboards, and other accessories
    * Online gaming (something along the lines of Xbox Live) as part of the Revolution concept
    * Broadband Adapter being included with the console
    * Monster franchises like Mario, Super Smash Brothers, Star Fox, Metroid, and Zelda may make an appearance as launch titles. We know that of course no more than two of these titles could be launch titles.  By logical thinking, Super Smash Brothers and Mario are the only franchises on the list that will not be receiving a sequel in 2004/2005 so it would make sense for those to be in production as early games for the Revolution.

Qto a quem vai ganhar...

Viva o futuro ;)
