Nunca antes se tinha colocado o problema desta forma. Pelo menos com esta expressividade. 

Acho bem que o povo se manifeste, afinal a maioria votou expressamente na Hillary. Se vão conseguir mudar alguma coisa? Duvido. Os órgãos todos estão dominados pelos republicanos, mas este tema pode ser útil aos democratas para nas próximas eleições alterarem o sistema eleitoral.

É verdade que quando o Bush Jr. ganhou ao Al Gore ninguém se preocupou, mas a verdade é que o Bush não conseguiu fazer com que se realizassem as manifestações que andam a decorrer por várias cidades.

Além disso, o partido democrata vai passar por uma "limpeza" interna e o Bernie Sanders parece ainda ter estaleca para liderar uma oposição coerente.

A ideia de que Donald Trump iria moderar o discurso depois de ser eleito Presidente dos Estados Unidos tem-se revelado uma falácia nos últimos dias. O milionário até pode reconsiderar a ideia de nomear um procurador especial para investigar Hillary Clinton pelo caso dos ‘emails’. OU deixar que o casamento homossexual aprovado fique como está. Mas há muito mais das ideias do candidato Trump que tanto assustaram o mundo, que prometem passar a efetivas com o presidente Trump.

Em entrevista ao programa 60 Minutes, da CBS News, Donald Trump disse estar preparado para expulsar imediatamente dos Estados Unidos dois a três milhões de imigrantes sem documentos. E a promessa de construir um muro na fronteira com o México continua a fazer parte da cartilha do presidente eleito, que até admitiu que pode ser parcialmente uma vedação, como foi sugerido por alguns congressistas republicanos, para logo reiterar: "Em algumas áreas sim, mas noutras é mais apropriado construir um muro”.

Quanto aos milhões de imigrantes ilegais, “vamos apanhar os que tenham registo criminal, os membros de gangues, os traficantes de droga. Provavelmente dois milhões, podem ser até três milhões, destas pessoas vão ser deportadas, ou presas", afirmou. "Vamos tirá-las do nosso país, estão cá ilegalmente", prometeu.

E a sua ofensiva para conseguir implementar nos Estados Unidos as suas políticas começa também pela Justiça. Com a necessidade de nomear juízes para o Supremo Tribunal, Trump não se escusou à questão e sublinhou que vai nomear juízes “anti-aborto” e “muito favoráveis à Segunda Emenda” da Constituição norte-americana, que garante o direito de cada cidadão dos EUA a ter uma arma de fogo.

MORTE AOS TRATADOS

A vitória de Trump é também uma má notícia para os acordos de comércio e do clima. Em Bruxelas, a comissária Cecilia Malmström já disse que o Tratado Transatlântico de COmércio e Investimento (TTIP) vai ficar em ‘stand-by’. Mas se já tinha sido difícil negociá-lo com a Administração Obama, nos corredores europeus poucos acreditam que a eleição de Trump não tenha sido a pena de morte para o TTIP. O mesmo parece acontecer com o Acordo de Paris, que visa impedir o aumento da temperatura mundial e combater as alterações climáticas. Entrou em vigor quatro dias antes das eleições americanas, mas Trump nunca escondeu que pretendia”, no mínimo, “renegociar os compromissos”.

Um dos principais temas em que Trump mostrou algum recuo na entrevista foi relativo ao Obamacare, o plano de reforma do sistema de saúde de Barack Obama. Tinha prometido na campanha que logo no primeiro dia de Casa Branca acabaria com ele, mas agora disse na entrevista que deu também ao Wall Street Journal que o próprio Obama lhe pediu que reconsiderasse a revogação integral do programa, o que fará “por uma questão de respeito”. E há dois pontos que podem afinal manter-se: a possibilidade de os filhos poderem usufruir do seguro de saúde dos pais até aos 26 anos e a proibição das seguradoras recusarem cobertura a pacientes com base em doenças existentes.

Ainda sem estar a ocupar o mais alto cargo dos EUA, Trump já começou os contactos diplomáticos e a sua aproximação aos líderes partidários de partidos nacionalistas é evidente. O primeiro a ser recebido foi Nigel Farage, líder do UKIP britânico, a quem Trump apelida de “senhor Brexit”. Mas na Europa multiplicaram-se os casos de figuras conhecidas da extrema-direita impulsionadas pela vitória de Trump. A francesa Marine Le Pen é um desses casos, o que deixa muitos analistas preocupados pelo facto de as Presidenciais francesas estarem já à porta.

O milionário que será o próximo inquilino da Casa Branca promete ainda não dar grande despesa ao Estado. E apesar de ter direito a um salário anual de 400 mil dólares pelo cargo de presidente dos Estados Unidos, garantiu que não vai recebê-lo.

“Penso que, por lei, só tenho de receber um dólar, por isso receberei um dólar por ano”, afirmou.

Entretanto começaram já a ser conhecidas as nomeações para a Casa Branca. O chefe de gabinete será Reince Priebus, atual presidente do Comité Nacional Republicano. E também ele deixou já uma ideia do que será a nova política de Washington: “Estou muito grato ao Presidente eleito por me dar esta oportunidade de o servir, a ele e ao país, e de trabalharmos em conjunto para criar uma economia que funcione para toda a gente , para aumentar a segurança nas nossas fronteiras, para acabar com o Obamacare e destruir o terrorismo radical islâmico”,

Como chefe de estratégia e conselheiro da Casa Branca foi escolhido Stephen Bannon, antigo oficial da marinha, dono da Breitbart News Network.

Obama Admin Brings in Refugees at Higher Rate After Trump Victory

 

In the eight days since Donald Trump was elected President of the United States, from November 9 to November 16, the Obama administration has brought 2,653 refugees into the country, a slightly higher rate than the 12,472 refugees brought in during the first forty days of FY 2017, according to the State Department’s interactive website.

Trump was elected on a platform that called for the suspension of the Syrian refugee program and an overall reduction in the total number of refugees brought into the country. His defeated opponent, Hillary Clinton, supported a 550 percent increase in Syrian refugees and an overall increase in the total number of refugees brought into the country.

The message the people of the United States delivered on Election Day appears not to have been heeded by the Office of Refugee Resettlement and the State Department Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration — the two agencies in the federal government with statutory responsibility for resettling refugees.

A Breitbart-Gravis poll conducted the week prior to the election showed that, by a 59 percent to 28 percent margin, voters opposed increasing the number of refugees resettled in the country.

The post-election FY 2017 daily rate of new refugee arrivals is 331. The pre-election FY 2017 daily rate of new refugee arrivals was 311.

The story is the same for the arrival of Syrian refugees.

 

In the eight days since Trump won the election, the Obama administration has brought 338 Syrian refugees into the country, or 42 each day, a slightly higher rate than the 1,602 Syrian refugees, or 40 each day, brought in during the first forty days of FY 2017.

From October 1 to November 16, the Obama administration brought in a total of 15,125 refugees, an annualized run rate of approximately 117,000 refugees.

This is a higher rate than the 110,000 refugees the Obama administration has proposed to Congress in the FY Budget that has yet to be passed, and significantly higher than the85,000 refugees who were resettled in the United States during FY 2016.

From October 1 to November 16, the Obama administration brought in a total of 1,950 Syrian refugees, an annualized run rate of approximately 15,000 Syrian refugees, which is 20 percent higher than the 12,500 Syrian refugees resettled in the country during FY 2016.

Currently, the federal government is operating under an interim ten week budget that expires on December 9.

Such interim budgets usually continue funding for all federal departments and agencies at the level of the prior fiscal year.

That fact raises an obvious question: Where are the Office of Refugee Resettlement and the Department of State Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration obtaining the additional funds to resettle refugees at a higher rate during the first month-and-a-half of FY 2017 than it did during FY 2016?

The other question is this: How will the Office of Refugee Resettlement, the Department of State Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration, and the voluntary agencies (VOLAGs) hired by the federal government to resettle refugees respond when President Trump suspends the Syrian refugee program, the refugee programs from other countries that are hostile to the United States (most likely Somalia would be included in this list), and enforces the “consultation clause” of the Refugee Act of 1980?

At a campaign rally in Minneapolis two days before Election Day, President-elect Trumpsaid, “a Trump administration will not admit any refugees without the support of the local community where they are being placed.”

“Current law leaves refugee admissions up to presidential discretion, and he could accomplish this on Day One,” David Bier of the Cato Institute told the Thompsons Reuter Foundation a day after Trump’s win.

“arring refugees from countries with large Muslim populations would be easy to enforce and, assuming no reallocation, could reduce refugee flows by 40 percent,” Bieradded.

The Obama administration has 65 more days until President-elect Trump’s inauguration on January 21, 2017. There is no indication that it intends to reduce the rate of refugee arrivals in the country between now and then.

How quickly the incoming Trump administration will be able to implement its new refugee policies will depend on two factors: the types and timing of executive orders the new president will sign related to refugee policy, and the rapidity with which it appoints a new director of Office of Refugee Resettlement and assistant secretary for the State Department Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration.
