The popular iOS and Android photo app will be acquired by Zuckberberg and company

Already having a giant install-base on iOS, Instagram continued to blaze trails when the photo-editing and sharing app was released on Android last week.

Now, the ever-popular app is being picked up by social-networking giant Facebook for a sum of $1 billion in cash and shares, reports AllThingsD.

As far as the future of Instagram is concerned, CEO Mark Zuckerberg explained via Facebook that they're "committed to building and growing Instagram independently."

"This is an important milestone for Facebook because it's the first time we've ever acquired a product and company with so many users." He continued, "providing the best photo sharing experience is one reason why so many people love Facebook and we knew it would be worth bringing these two companies together."

Instagram currently has 13 employees and over 31 million users.

Fdx, grande negócio para os 13 morcões do Instagram.. Uma cáca duma social app rendeu-lhes a fortuna da vida deles e das próximas gerações deles.

Ups and downs for Instagram this past week:

Releases Android client= everyone cheers. Android users quickly realise it's a load of crap= boo.

iPhone users get snooty about Android influx= boo.

Facebook buys Instagram= pretty much everyone rolls their eyes and decide to

a) not bother trying it out or

B) delete their account.

Big win for the creators of Instagram as they well and truly turn to the dark side.

Já se vai vendo isto na comunidade Droid

Ou: Pode ser que eles juntem as duas equipas de developers e façam uma app de jeito

Menos com menos dá mais, não é?
