February Cover Revealed: XCOM: Enemy Unknown

5BnyG.jpg

This is the announcement you've been waiting for: One of the most beloved strategy titles of all time re-imagined by one of the best strategy studios in the world. Firaxis Games' XCOM: Enemy Unknown introduces a wider console audience to what made the storied franchise great in the first place.

Unlike 2K Marin's previously announced XCOM shooter, which sparked tempers among longtime fans for turning its back on the series' cerebral roots, this title is a full-on strategy game that puts players in command of a global anti-alien defense force. XCOM's leader needs a worldwide perspective where threats are identified, populations reassured, and national leaders mollified – but a tactical mind is just as critical considering every shot XCOM's soldiers fire on the battlefield is under the player's turn-based control.

"It’s been a dream of ours to recreate X-COM with our unique creative vision. We’re huge fans of the original game and it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to re-envision a game that is as beloved as X-COM," said Steve Martin, president of Firaxis Games. "We were careful to keep XCOM: Enemy Unknown true to the elements that made X-COM such a revered game while delivering an entirely new story and gameplay experience for both die-hard X-COM fans and newcomers to the franchise."

If you're lost, you can find out what all the fuss over the original X-COM is in the in-depth Classic GI feature we printed a few months ago (now available online for the first time), which includes rare insight from series creator Julian Gollop.

The huge feature in February's Game Informer goes into all the gory details of XCOM's destructible tactical environments, the interaction between the real-time strategic view and the turn-based combat, how the XCOM organization improves its capabilities as the war rages on, and much more.

In addition, the February issue has our lengthy love letter to the top 50 games of 2011, an exclusive look at new Mass Effect 3 details, and the final word on Final Fantasy XIII-2 along with all the usual goodies.

HELL. THE FUCK. YEAH.

Notícia do Ano. :god:

X-Com: Enemy UnknownWill ‘Re-imagine’ ClassicX-Com. First Screens Prove It.

X-Com Enemy Unknown, the first shock gaming announcement of 2012 will be a "re-imagining" of the original X-Com game and will play as a mix of real-time and turn-based strategy, according to the first tantalizing details revealed by Game Informer magazine today.

The upcoming fall 2012 console and computer game, which is being made by the legendaryCivilization strategy game studio Firaxis and which is decidedly not like the upcoming first-person shooter X-Com in development at BioShock 2 studio 2K Marin will harken back to the original PC classic, but with some tweaks.

"Firaxis is undeniably streamlining aspects of the game and removing no small amount of micromanagement," GI's Adam Blessener writes on the magazine's website today, "but from what I've seen I wouldn't call it 'dumbing down' the game so much as getting rid of tedium and uninteresting mechanics. Soldiers still die permanently, fog of war and line of sight are hugely important in combat, and you absolutely can lose the game if you screw up too badly."

The game plays out in real-time at the global level, charging players with tracking UFOs and abductions. In player's bases, where management and research is done, time is paused. Battles are turn-based.

GI's writer is "personally thrilled" about this game. We'll know more about it as the month rolls along at the magazine doles out more coverage.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown Release Date, Special Edition, and More!

And now the moment so many of you have been waiting for: XCOM: Enemy Unknown will be available in North America on October 9th. (and October 12th internationally)

Additionally, those of you who decide to pre-order the game will get guaranteed access to a launch feature that we're calling the Elite Soldier Pack. Now, I could tell you about the aesthetic upgrades you can apply to your armor with this pack, such as the Hyperion and Reaper soldier armor kits. I could also tell you about how you'll get access to a full color customization feature for all of the armor sets in the game. But both of those, in my humble opinion, pale in comparison to my favorite part. You know that dude from the original X-COM with the blonde hair and the cheesy flattop? That's right, you get him. (In the game that is -- he doesn't come to your house.)

One more thing: The Special Edition. Available exclusively for PC from participating retailers, this version of the game will be available for $59.99 and will contain several goodies like an art book, fold-out poster of the XCOM headquarters, XCOM insignia patch, and even some digital stuff like the soundtrack, special art, and more.

In the UK the Special Edition is an Exclusive to Game and Gamestation, so no it wont be available from play.com, or amazon.co.uk, sorry for the bad news.

Na game os portes são de "£2.95 per order" = 3.70, mas o jogo custa 50€. :(
