Deadline is reporting that Battlestar Galactica's Tricia Helfer has been cast as the lead in a new TNT pilot. Which seems like great news until you delve a little deeper and discover that it's a crime-fighting dog show.

Yes, Scent of the Missing (holy s***!) is based on a book by Susannah Charleson and revolves around a tenacious, strong-willed K-9 Search and Rescue volunteer, also named Susannah, who works with an equally determined partner — her mischievous golden retriever, Puzzle. Veteran TV actor Gerald McRaney is also on board as her father. The project will be co-written/executive produced by CSI producer Carol Mendelsohn.

Helfer was also recently cast in NBC's "sequel to" The Firm.

It was already bizarre that TNT has a new pilot in the works about a K-9 Search and Rescue volunteer and her golden retriever partner and that Tricia Helfer, who we love from Battlestar Galactica, is starring in it. Then you add in the hysterical title, Scent of the Missing ('cause see, the dog can follow the… sigh…) and it sounds like a Funny or Die video.

But no, this is really happening, and not only that, but Deadline is now reporting the awesome Summer Glau will also be part of the cast. Tricia Helfer and Summer Glau starring in a new pilot together? That rules! Tricia Helfer and Summer Glau starring in Scent of the Missing together? Um… Well…

According to Deadline, Glau will play a new member of the K-9 Search and Rescue team "who is beautiful and very wealthy but much tougher than she looks." Also joining the cast is Daryl Mitchell (Brothers) as, "a wheelchair-bound former military sergeant who serves as the communications technician for the team."

Scent of the Missing comes from several CSI writers. Perhaps we'll be surprised by how edgy, intense and emotional it all plays out… But yeah… Not the easiest sell.
