French Animation Artist Guillaume Ivernel launches sci-fi thriller "Soul Man"

French animation artist Guillaume Ivernel, well-known for his French-American co-produced 3-D animated film Dragon Hunters, is now working on another project, Soul Man, a sci-fi thriller.

Budgeted at $45 million, the film is produced by Blacklight Movies, a Paris-based company, who also works with Les Androids Associes, a company specializing in digital previsualization. CMC, one of the largest technical providers, is also part of the project.

Ivernel, who created the concept and the decors (characters were designed by Valerie Hadida) co-wrote the script with crime novelist Caryl Ferey (Zulu). Despite its colorful appearance, Ivernel explains, the film is “in the vein of 1970s black action pics, with a sci-fi beat”, and as a result, “has a much darker undertone aimed at an audience of teenagers and adults." Hollywood talents are being cast in voice roles. Soul Man will be presented during the Cartoon Movie co-production forum that takes place in Lyon,France, from March 2nd to March 4th.
