HTC Holiday specs detailed

News has leaked of a new HTC Android phone with an even bigger screen. Read on for the specs of the phone currently called HTC Holiday….

The following specs were supplied by Chinese site 911Sniper, which is known for sourcing HTC leaks. Here's what we know so far…

HTC Holiday specs

- 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8660 processor

- 1GB RAM

- 4.5-inch qHD display (960 x 540 resolution)

- 8-megapixel rear camera

- 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera

- Android 2.3.4

Share and share alike

While this isn't a super-detailed spec rundown, we can tell that the HTC Holiday (hopefully that name will change in the same way that the HTC Pyramid became the HTC Sensation) will be largely similar to the Sensation.

For one thing, the 1.2GHz dual-core processor that'll apear in the Holiday will be the same Qualcomm chip used in the Sensation. Another element that appears to be identical to the Sensation is the 8-megapixel main camera. Along with the shared processor and the latest version of Android, this means it should be capable of the same 1080p HD video recording as its little brother.

Finally, the Holiday's large screen appears to pack in the same qHD resolution (960 x 540) as the Sensation, which means it'll also subscribe to the same video-friendly 16:9 aspect ratio. Could the Holiday become the ultimate smartphone for watching movies on?

Big difference

It could well do, given the key difference between the new Holiday and the Sensation. Unbelievably, HTC has opted for an even bigger screen than the Sensation's 4.3-inch number. Given that many hold any smartphone screen over 4-inches to be beyond the optimal size (just try using a 4.3 incher single handed), the Holiday seems a tad excessive. We're approaching the 'tweener tablet territory of such oddball devices as the 5-inch Dell Streak here.

The Holiday also appears to pack in 25 per cent more RAM than the HTC Sensation – 1GB versus 768MB – which should make general operation a tad smoother (not that the Sensation is any kind of slouch). Also, the 1.3-megapixel front camera appears to be much better than the VGA example squeezed into the Sensation, which should make for tidier video calls.

Right now the HTC Holiday is said to be heading for a US release, and could even be capable of using the American 4G network for blindingly fast data connection speeds. As for a release date and whether we in the UK will ever see it is less clear.

Right now, our initial excitement over these HTC Holiday specs is tempered by a couple of crucial questions. Does its 4.5-inch screen represent the future of smartphone displays, or an ill-advised step into unwieldiness? And will such a huge display cause a significant hit to battery life? We're already a little worried about the Sensation's potential stamina, after all.

Hopefully we'll get some answers over the coming months. For now, we're going to start investing in large-pocketed combat trousers like it's 1998.

“There has been overwhelmingly customer feedback that people want access to open bootloaders on HTC phones. I want you to know that we’ve listened. Today, I’m confirming we will no longer be locking the bootloaders on our devices. Thanks for your passion, support and patience,”

Peter Chou, CEO of HTC

Committed to the developer community, we're launching and opening Sense to devs via OpenSense SDK

HTC :god: :god: :god: :god:
