Legendary comic, Dom Deluise, died May 4, 2009, after a battle with an unknown illness. It has yet to be disclosed what type of disease Deluise succumbed to, but many speculate it was from cancer. Deluise battled both prostate cancer and penile cancer. He was 75.

Deluise is best known for his supporting roles in the films of Mel Brooks, such as “Blazing Saddles” and “Silent Movie“. In 1980 he took his real-life struggle with weight to the big screen in “Fatso,” the story of a man who fought to control his overeating. His love of food led him to author two cookbooks and become a regular on morning tv in the 80s as a chef. On his official website, domdeluise.com, his family has issued a statement to remember the life of the late great comic: “It’s easy to mourn his death, but easier to remember a time when he made you laugh.” In lieu of flowers that family has posted a list of charities that donations can be made to.

RIP
