Million Dollar Scratch Off Winner In Boston Is A Convicted Bank Robber

Timothy B. Elliott won $1 million off a stratch ticket.

Timothy Elliot hit the jackpot when he purchased the $10 scratch off ticket at the Hyannis supermarket. Unfortunately, that purchase was in violation of his probation. Seems Tim robbed a bank in 2006 and isn't allowed to gamble.

Elliot was placed on 5 years probation in 2006 stemming from an unarmed bank heist on Cape Cod. He was also ordered to be put under the care of the state's mental health department. It is unclear whether he is still receiving care.

Under terms of his probation, he "may not gamble, purchase lottery tickets or visit an establishment where gaming is conducted, including restaurants where Keno may be played."

Elliot won $1 million from a lottery scratch ticket.

A photo posted on Monday at the Massachusetts State Lottery website shows 55-year-old Mr. Elliot proudly receiving the first of 20 $50,000 annual installments. The picture was removed by Wednesday however when state officials realized their mistake.

The lottery routinely cross references the names of winners to verify that they do not owe back taxes or child support. In those cases the winnings go directly the the Revenue Department.

Mr. Elliot's case is different, as he owes no money to anyone. He is scheduled to appear in court December 7th, at which time a decision will be made as to where the million dollars should go.

Dan Rosenfeld, state lottery representative stated "This is kind of new territory" regarding the necessity of a court decision in this case.

And to think the guy blew it by robbing a bank a year earlier. Bet he would like to call a "do over."
